Carbondale's trustee election to be mail-only

The town of Carbondale will conduct a mail-only municipal election this spring, following a decision by the board of trustees on Jan. 17.

An ordinance finalizing the change will be presented to the trustees on Feb. 14.

Town Clerk Cathy Derby said on Thursday that, with the change, the first day for picking up candidate nominating petitions for the April 3 municipal election is now Feb. 3.

The deadline for handing in nominating petitions is Feb. 23. Petitions must contain at least 25 signatures of Carbondale residents.

The deadline for registering to vote in the April 3 election is March 5. Ballots will be mailed out the week of March 12.

Those wishing for absentee ballots may pick up applications now at Town Hall.

Three trustee seats are up for election this year. Trustee Ed Cortez is not eligible to run again due to term limits, but trustees John Hoffmann and Pam Zentmyer may run for re-election, Derby said.

The Glenwood Springs Recreation Department invites every father (grandfather, uncle) to take their little girls (12 years and younger) out on a date. It will be a magical evening of dining and dancing that will create memories to last a lifetime from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Glenwood Springs Community Center. Fee ($35 members/$45 nonmembers and $10 for each additional daughter) includes corsages for the young ladies and a delicious pasta buffet catered by Rob Fishman of Chomps Deli.
