CARBONDALE, Colorado — Local high school students will offer their perspectives on the importance of place, sustainability and wilderness protection in a special radio broadcast series airing on community radio station KDNK Mondays from 4–4:30 p.m. starting today and running through May 4.

The Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program (AZYEP) and Tomorrow’s Voices are partnering to present the series.

First up will be a program on “The Importance of Place” today with students Shea Thomson, Devon Cormier and Maggie Summers.

The remainder of the schedule will include:

• Monday, April 20: “Sustainability,” with Hannah Goulding, Kate Eason and Kate Muir

• Monday, April 27: “Literature of Place,” with Jack Stokan and JR Ackerman

• Monday, May 4: “The Need to Preserve Wilderness,” with Noelle Chiarelli, Jade Johnson and Jake Wilker.

AZYEP is a nonprofit organization teaching youth radio broadcasting. Its mission is to develop leadership, multiculturalism and identity by providing training and opportunity to youth in community broadcasting.

AZYEP partners with KDNK to give voice to youth by teaching a high school accredited radio broadcasting class and broadcasting weekly youth radio programs in English and Spanish.

The mission of Tomorrow’s Voices is to inspire students to find their civic voice through ethical and intellectual education. This is the second year that the two organizations have partnered to broadcast student voices on a number of issues covered in Tomorrow’s Voices’ geo-political class, which is offered to local high school students.
