Wheels for charity

Here’s an offer that might be appealing to a legitimate valley charity. We received a call from Jerry, a valley resident who says he has a perfectly decent 1993 Ford Aerostar minivan that he’s willing to donate to charity — although you shouldn’t necessarily interpret that as an opportunity to pick up a free set of wheels for personal use. Give Jerry a call at 544-0627; he’d like the vehicle to go to some worthwhile use.

Blinded by science: Riverside School’s science fair team included, from left, Kathy Rogue, Asa Fix, Seth Carmichell, Nadine Chavez, Mayona Hamrick, Karina Tlaxcala, Erin Gorsett, Allison Schaiberger, Josh Davidson, Kyle Simonson and Caleb Mahon. 10 kids from New Castle’s Riverside School produced some great results at the Western Slope Regional Science Fair, held March 5-6 in Grand Junction. In fact, the students did so well that Riverside received the Outstanding Science Department award and $500 for science equipment. Nadine Chavez, Erin Gorsett and Josh Davidson all won first place in their divisions, with Josh qualifying to compete at the state science fair in Fort Collins and Erin winning a special award in geoscience. Allison Schaiberger and Caleb Mahon each won third place in their divisions; Mayona Hamrick won $150 in special awards.
