Snowshoeing under the stars
Dear Editor,As part of our 10th anniversary celebration, the Roaring Fork Conservancy is conducting a series of watershed explorations in 2006. Our first event at Emma Open Space was a smashing success! We would like to thank all of our sponsors and participants in the Jan. 13 Moonlight Snowshoe at Emma Open Space. Kelly Wood, of the Division of Wildlife; Gary Tennenbaum, of Pitkin County Open Space and Trails; and Rick Lofaro and Eliza Hotchkiss, of the Conservancy, provided excellent insight and interpretation on local history, wildlife, and conservation efforts. We were also blessed with a beautiful, clear night and fresh, new snow.
Many thanks to the media (including the Post Independent) for promoting the event - we had a capacity crowd. For those who could not join us do to space limitations, we have added another moonlight snowshoe at Emma Open Space on Feb. 9. Please sign up early and visit our Web site, www.roaringfork.org, for more upcoming events.
We encourage everyone to explore our watershed during 2006!
