He's no anaconda, but by all accounts, Buddy is a big snake.
Nobody yet knows if it's Buddy the boa or Buddy the python, but whatever Buddy is, a homeowner turned the snake over to Glenwood Springs Police on March 14 after an evicted renter left the snake behind.
Glenwood Police Chief Terry Wilson said it was a "young lad" who abandoned Buddy at 7291Ú2 Palmer St.
Police turned Buddy over to Colorado Animal Rescue, and, at seven and one half feet, he is the largest snake CARE has handled in recent memory.
But Buddy is missing his master.
"He's not super happy," said Tracey Yajko, CARE kennel manager.
She said it's unknown what species Buddy is, but he's the first exotic pet CARE has received this year. Normally, the organization receives about 10 exotics each year, she said.
Buddy may soon go to Reptile Rescue in Grand Junction if somebody doesn't adopt him locally, Yajko said.
In the meantime, a rather miffed Buddy is providing CARE workers some entertainment.
"They're fun to watch," Yajko said.
Glenwood Police rarely encounter the likes of Buddy.
"We run into some weird animals every now and then," Wilson said, "but a seven-foot python is out of the norm."
