GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. A teacher at Elizabeth High School was arrested Monday in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a student while the school's football team was staying in Glenwood Springs during a playoff game trip.Police in Parker, southeast of Denver, arrested Darcie Esson, 32, of Parker late Monday afternoon on a felony charge of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. Bond was set at $25,000, Glenwood Springs police said in a news release.The football team was in Glenwood Springs on the weekend when it lost to Rifle High School in Rifle.On Thursday, Elizabeth police informed the Glenwood Springs Police Department about an allegation that a female Elizabeth teacher had had sexual relations with a male student from Elizabeth High School. Police believe the incident occurred on or around Nov. 11, the day of the game.Two Glenwood police detectives went to Elizabeth Monday to further investigate the allegation. After conducting several interviews, they presented their findings to the 9th Judicial District Attorney's Office and obtained a warrant for Esson's arrest.Glenwood police credited the Elizabeth and Parker police departments and the Elbert County School District for their roles in the investigation."It was noted during our portion of the investigation that school officials acted very quickly and efficiently when word of these allegations came to their attention," Glenwood police said in announcing the arrest.
