Bob Johnson racked up yet another award Friday.
The Glenwood Springs real estate agent founded Operation Vacation in 2005 to provide all-expenses-paid-vacations to servicemen and women who have served overseas.
Friday he received the Army's Certificate of Appreciation for Patriotic Civil Service. The award was presented by soldiers from Fort Carson, including Second Lt. Crystal Moore with the 43rd Area Support Group Adjutant; Staff Sgt. John Deneen, 152nd Movement Control Team; and Lt. Col. Matthew Goodman, commander of the 43rd ASG.
Goodman thanked Johnson for his work with soldiers.

"This is a difficult time to be in the Army now," he said. "It means a lot to soldiers to be well thought of back home."
Johnson has also received the Denver TV Channel 9 News "9Who Care" Award in 2006. He was featured in People magazine this month in the Heroes Among Us section, which has drawn national attention to the program. He was also recognized for his work at the annual Garfield County Humanitarian Awards sponsored by Post Independent, Garfield County Commissioners and Aspen Valley Community Foundation.
Since the inception of Operation Vacation, Johnson has helped bring two dozen families to Glenwood Springs. Each soldier and his or her family is recognized in the Post Independent when they visit the area.
Of the Army award Johnson said, "It just makes it all worthwhile, what I've been doing. It just makes me feel warm and fuzzy."

Operation Vacation is sponsored by Glenwood Springs businesses who donate meals, hotel rooms, entertainment and transportation for the military families.

"I don't know how you pull this off. It makes the Normandy invasion look easy," he quipped.
