The fifth annual Colorado Yagatta Regatta whitewater event will make a splash on the Colorado River Saturday, June 2 in Glenwood Springs.

The event features a costumed floatilla downstream from Grizzly Creek in Glenwood Canyon to Two Rivers Park. New this year, kayakers will race the same route to support Glenwood's proposed whitewater park. The fastest boaters win prizes from Colorado Canoe & Kayak. The $25 kayak race entry fee benefits the planned whitewater park and includes a ticket to the Colorado Yagatta Regatta events taking place at the park.

Also featured this year for the first time is an art exchange allowing artists and the general public to sell works from their own collections. A portion of the sale proceeds will benefit Operation Vacation.

The family-friendly event also offers live music by The Nacho Men, The Sirens, Acoustic Mayhem, and Frank Martin and The Postmark Band, beer tastings, food, and children's activities.

The Regatta supports Operation Vacation, a program that provides military personnel who have fought overseas with all-expenses-paid trips to Glenwood.

Tickets for entrance into the park are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. Gates open at 11 a.m. Rafts can be rented - with or without guides - through Whitewater Rafting by calling 945-8477. Call 928-9949 to register for the kayak race and for race times.
