Gracy's owners wanted to add to the Glenwood community
Dear Editor,

I just read the interesting letter to the editor on Gracy's from Misty Stuart, regarding her anger and prejudice supported by very little knowledge.

Gracy's jeans, which were designer denim jeans, and yes, they were from Aspen stores, but they ranged in price from $9 to $49. Hardly what I would call "overpriced," as she claims.

Many of our loyal customers in Aspen come from Glenwood Springs, and have for years asked us to open a store in Glenwood. Our lease required us to have 75 percent new merchandise. To fulfill this requirement, we had to find a way to acquire new merchandise that would be affordable. Especially with great stores like Target and Bed Bath and Beyond across the street. We did this by getting new designer clothes that were being donated to various valley charities. These charities needed cash and we needed inventory. Fifty percent of all of Gracy's sales went to these charities, and what we viewed as a good causes for all of our benefit who live in this valley.

I have to assume Misty must be an older woman who may of lived in Aspen in the '70s, as she references "money flowing freely as cocaine." I apologize for not being familiar with that lifestyle like she seems to be.

In any event, our goal was to try and bring a good product to a community that we very much enjoy and appreciate. Throughout this year, we have paid for entertainment that was offered free to the community at The Meadows. We provided a fashion runway with lights and music for girls to have fun showing their clothes to friends. We provided a pool table for guys to enjoy while their wives and girlfriends shopped. Our goal was to provide a fun place for friends, old and new, to enjoy.

Sometimes the best of intentions are misunderstood - and to Misty, good luck in your life and in dealing with the world that surrounds you.

A recommendation for book lovers

Dear Editor,

Recently I drove up to Red Mountain Books in the Glenwood Springs Mall for a book signing event. I won't mention the book because that's not what this is about. This is about two things. First, I met so many interesting and wonderful people in the course of three brief hours. The volume of book lovers and readers was stunning. I left with my own very long list of recommendations. The second thing I wanted to mention is Red Mountain Books owner David Wood and his incredible book store. Need a book? Need a book recommendation? He's a walking, talking fountain of ideas.

Like all the best bookstores, Red Mountain Books isn't just a place to buy a book, it's a resource and true community center.

The new high school needs ivy

Dear Editor,

They say doctors bury their mistakes and architects cover theirs with ivy. About the new school visible to Grand Avenue: buy the ivy, quickly.
