SILT - Town trustees have set an election date asking voters whether or not to recall Mayor Dave Moore, which will coincide with the town's regularly scheduled April 1, 2008 municipal election.
The date was set at the town board meeting on Oct. 9.
"The (recall election) will be held in conjunction with the municipal election," said Silt Town Clerk Sheila McIntyre. "It will be two sets of elections - the normal seats on the board and the mayor's seat."
A petition seeking to recall Moore was filed on Sept. 14, by a committee spearheaded by Mayor Pro Tem Tod Tibbetts. The committee claims that Moore has violated state statutes, local ordinances and codes of conduct, including failure to obtain a fence permit, failure to obtain a permit when his construction company closed a town road and intervention into a town employee issue when he was not authorized by the town board to do so.
Moore, who was elected as mayor in April 2006, had until Sept. 28 to file a protest to the petition. He did not file a protest, stating that any mistakes he may have made were "procedural" and that he was confident he would prevail in a recall election.
Nomination petitions for the mayor's position will be accepted beginning Jan. 2, 2008. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, a registered voter in the town of Silt and a resident for at least one year prior to the election.
However, should Moore not be recalled in the election, the mayor nominations would be moot.
For more information about the recall election or taking out a nomination petition for mayor, call Sheila McIntyre at 876-2353.
