Torrey Udall's long arms were responsible for plenty a save this past boys soccer season, and his knack for sprawling stops earned him co-Player of the Year honors in the Class 3A Western Slope League.

The Roaring Fork High School goalkeeper shared the co-MVP distinction with Mike Eaton of Basalt, and was joined on the All-3A WSL first team by James Armstrong and Alex Hernandez. Max Peterson and Dylan Van Roekel of Coal Ridge were also first-teamers.

Udall, a senior, put together quite a four-year soccer career for the Rams.

"He's just a great presence in the goal, in the frame" Roaring Fork coach John Ackerman said of Udall. "Above and beyond his goalkeeping skill is also his leadership."

League coaches cast the votes for all postseason honors, and this race ended in a draw. Those picking Udall clearly sent the message that they don't like to face the lanky keeper.

"It must have been like that," Udall said. "That's always a great compliment. For a goalie to get that award I must have frustrated them enough."

Flattered is the only word to describe Udall's reaction to the award.

"It was definitely a great way to conclude all four years," he said. "I was really surprised. I didn't expect it, but it's great that Roaring Fork is getting recognition."

Earning all-league honorable mention spots were Roaring Fork's Bryan Salinas and Dave Cappa and Coal Ridge's Ryan Zelenka and Skyler James.

League-champion Basalt led all of the 3A WSL's seven schools with six first-team selections and four honorable mention picks. The Longhorns' coach, John McDermott, was tabbed the Coach of the Year.

Two Demons make 4A WSL first team
Fabian Tapia and Adam Sadowski led the Glenwood Springs boys soccer team during the regular season, and it's no shock the pair landed on the All-Class 4A WSL first team. Demon teammate Ben Fouts, an honorable mention pick, joined them in receiving postseason recognition. Glenwood finished its regular season with a 6-5-1 league mark and made the playoffs.

From Rifle, Evan Muldoon and Scott Rust landed honorable mention selections.

Eagle Valley dominated the big awards, with Cesar Castillo tabbed Player of the Year and Jason Rittmiller named Coach of the Year. The Devils overcame an early season slump to finish third in the 4A WSL at 6-4-2.
