Don Hutchings was born May 23, 1923, in Rifle, to Richard O. and Mary Ethel (Martin) Hutchings. He spent his childhood and graduated high school in Rifle. Don married Ruby Lee Hightower in 1950 in Rifle and was a member of the Rifle Methodist Church. He served our country in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as a tech sergeant, and was very proud of it.Don flew B-17s in five campaign battles in Europe and was awarded nine medals. Don enjoyed the great outdoors hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family.Survivors include his wife, Ruby Hutchings of Montrose; son W. "Bill" R. (Sandy) Hutchings of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; daughters Arlene Hutchings (Larry) Schmidt of Montrose, and Janet K. (Steve) White of Cowley, Texas; grandchildren Stony Keithley, Alex Cornett and Crystal Hutchings; and great-grandchildren D. Cole Keithley and Kija Sage Keithley. Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Martin, Pete and Richard and sister Kathleen Holman. A memorial service with military rites is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose.
