Golay helps MPIIs to victory

The Aspen Mother Pucker IIs women’s hockey team scored its second victory of the season last night with a 5-1 victory over the Eagle Down Valley Divas. Jeanne Golay of Glenwood Springs led off the scoring bonanza with a goal in the first period, assisted by team co-captain Emily McConnell of Aspen.

Molly Jones of Basalt scored in the second period with a one-timer off a pass from Deanne Kessler of Aspen. Jones later repaid the favor, passing to Kessler, who scored in the third period. Two more third period goals were scored by the duo of Rachel Dayton and Julie Cox, both of El Jebel, with Cox passing to Dayton for the score and then vice versa, with Cox scoring the final goal of the game off the assist from Dayton.

Amy Goldman kept the net nearly empty for the MPIIs, with Eagle’s Mary Leibl sneaking one in early in the second period. Kathie McNeil guarded the net for the Divas.

The MPIIs are now 2-1 for the season. They play again on Sunday against the Ice Queens at 6:15 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs Community Center Ice Rink. Admission is free and open to the public.
