After finishing as the runner-up in the Class 3A District 2 Tournament, the Roaring Fork boys basketball team will now be on the road this weekend in the Bob Chavez Region at Sheridan High School in Denver.

The No. 3-seeded Rams (17-5) are paired up against No. 6 University (14-9) in the first round. If the Rams can win the contest, which will take place on Friday at 5 p.m., on Saturday they will play the winner of Friday’s game between No. 2 Sheridan (14-7) and No. 7 Monte Vista (10-12) .

The Coal Ridge boys, who finished third in the 3A District 2 Tournament, were placed in the Steven Hill Region and will take on Strasburg (16-6) at Faith Christian High School in Arvada. The Titans (14-8) were handed the No. 5 seed, while Strasburg is No. 4. On the other side of the regional bracket, top-seeded Faith Christian (20-2) will be playing No. 8 Trinidad (12-10). Coal Ridge will play at 5 p.m. on Friday.

Aspen (20-2), the District 2 Champion who was granted a No. 1 seed, will be a host in the Dick Katte Region and will face Bennett (12-9) on Friday.

In the girls 3A regional tournaments, the Coal Ridge Titans (12-10) will also be on the road on Friday for a 7 p.m. first-round game. As the No. 8 seed, they received a tough draw in No. 1 Roosevelt (21-1). Roosevelt, a school in Johnstown (a town south of Loveland), is a John Marule Region host.

District 5 Champion Basalt earned the privilege to be a No. 1 seed and a host in the Anita Stites-Roland Region. The Longhorns will play No. 8 Peak to Peak (11-11).

Both the Titan boys and girls basketball squads will be playing in the first regional playoff games for any team sport in the three-year history of Coal Ridge High School.

All of Friday’s winners will play in the second round on Saturday with an invitation to the Great Eight state tournament on the line. As the bracket is now single elimination, any loss will end a team’s season.
