GLENWOOD SPRINGS — United States Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., will be in Meeker and Rifle on Tuesday to discuss energy-related issues affecting the area.
The senator will visit the Colowyo Coal Mine, 5731 Highway 13, in Meeker at 12:45 p.m. He will then go to a town hall meeting in Meeker with Rio Blanco County residents at 2 p.m. to talk about energy and other matters at the Kilowatt Korner, 233 Sixth St.

His tour of Northwest Colorado will end with another town hall meeting in Rifle with Garfield County residents at 4 p.m. in the school board conference room at the Garfield School District Re-2 Administration Building, 830 Whiteriver Ave.

The public is welcome to attend the Meeker and Rifle town hall meetings.

The senator will travel to Meeker and Rifle after visiting with local elected officials and community leaders in Steamboat Springs to discuss his northwest regional priorities. Those include the promotion of clean coal technology and renewable energy projects in the area’s rural communities, according to a statement from Salazar’s office.

“Colorado and the West are leading the way forward to a new energy frontier for our nation, with promising cutting-edge and cleaner energy technologies,” Salazar said in a prepared statement. “This bodes well for our nation’s ability to rid its addiction to foreign oil, responsibly develop its oil and gas resources, employ smart, renewable energy technologies and create more jobs in our forgotten rural areas. Our energy future is bright, but only if we continue to commit ourselves to developing our next frontier: a new energy economy.”
