Novice to expert gardeners are welcome to join the new group for its second meeting, to be held from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at the New Castle Branch Library. The club’s intent is to work on beautification projects, a community garden plot, sharing of fun, knowledge and plant matter.

Garfield County will launch a discount card program to help consumers cope with the high price of prescription drugs on Monday. The county is making free prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) that offers average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.

The cards may be used by all county residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage, and are accepted at 100 percent of the county’s pharmacies. A national network of more than 59,000 participating retail pharmacies also will honor the NACo prescription discount card.

There is no cost to county taxpayers for NACo and Garfield County to make these money saving cards available to our residents.

Cards will be available at Garfield County Human Services and Public Health offices and the lobby area of local city hall buildings. Other pick-up locations include Catholic Charities, Grand River Primary Care, Battlement Mesa Medical Center and Mountain Family Health Center. There is no enrollment form, no membership fee and no restrictions or limits on frequency of use. Cardholders and their family members may use the card any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance.

“The Future of Food,” 2005 documentary offers an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled grocery store shelves during the past decade, and will be shown March 26.

The Roaring Fork Chapter of the Colorado Archaeology Society will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, March 17, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1016 Cooper Ave., Glenwood. The program will be a video entitled “The Maya Temples, Tombs and Time.” Plans for the spring field trip will be discussed.
