Parachute cancels April 1 election

PARACHUTE — Not enough candidates for four Parachute town trustee seats led to the cancellation of the April 1 municipal election, town officials said.
Trustee Kyla Kiburis decided to not seek reelection, Trustee Linda Waite was term-limited this year, and Trustee Travis Sproles did not return a petition to run for reelection before the deadline. Trustee Judy Hayward and newcomer Juanita Williams were the only qualified names on the ballot, so the election was canceled.
The town board will seek residents to appoint to the two vacant positions, officials said.
