GRAND JUNCTION — A Grand Avenue home was hit by a late-night arsonist Sunday for the fifth time in three months.
Grand Junction firefighters were called at 9:15 p.m. Sunday on a report of a car fire at 1229 Grand Ave. — the undercarriage area of a Honda parked in the home’s driveway was found ablaze.
Grand Junction fire spokesman Mike Page said the owner had largely extinguished the fire by the time firefighters arrived.
Damage was estimated by Grand Junction police at more than $1,000.
“It’s suspicious,” said Page, who declined to answer other questions about the fire, citing an active investigation.
“You have to assume they’re being targeted,” Page said.
The homeowner on Monday declined to talk about Sunday’s fire.
It’s the fifth suspected arson at the residence since Jan. 8.
Sunday’s fire was also the second in the three days at the property. Grand Junction firefighters handled a fire involving a garage at the residence called in at 9:23 p.m. last Thursday.
The garage, which was hit with arson for a second time, faces an alleyway that backs up to homes between Grand and White avenues.
Fires have been reported at the property between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Jan. 8, Feb. 4 and Feb. 26.
