Bears finish in fourth at golf tourney
GRAND JUNCTION — Loren Forney hit her way into the top 10 again on Tuesday, carding a round of 83 to take sixth place in the Grand Junction Central golf tournament at Tiara Rado Golf Course.
Forney was the top Bear golfer and helped Rifle to a fourth-place team finish with a score of 273. Fellow Bears Kori Kosht, who recorded a 93, and Mercedes Bolado, who carded a 97, took 16th and 20th, respectively.
Coal Ridge also played in the tournament as Callie Schlegal, Mini Kanakaraj and Nadine Chavez combined for a score of 333 for a ninth-place team finish. Schlegal closed out the tournament with the lowest Titan score, sneaking under 100 with a 99 to place 24th.
Kanakaraj hit a 114 for 33rd and Chavez tied for 36th with a 120.
Grand Junction Central and Fruita tied for the overall team title at 246 strokes each. Central’s Melissa Martin turned in a six-over par 77 for the overall championship.
Rifle and Coal Ridge will both return to the links on April 3 when they will play in Delta’s tournament at Devils Thumb Golf Course. Glenwood Springs and Grand Valley will also play in that tournament, as all teams want to get some time on Devils Thumb — the course which will host regionals in May.
Rifle Relays canceled, soccer moved to Friday
The Rifle Relays scheduled for today have been canceled. Rifle head track and field coach Jerry Shafer said it was called off because not enough teams signed up.
The Rifle soccer game against Moffat County scheduled for today in Rifle has been moved to 4 p.m. Friday in Rifle.
