GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado An Aurora man got into trouble with the law Sunday after a housekeeper reported finding methamphetamines in his motel room, according to police.
Andrew Wayne Bashore, 39, of Aurora, was arrested in West Glenwood Springs just before noon on suspicion of methamphetamine possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and two warrants for failure to appear on traffic offenses.
An arrest affidavit said Bashore admitted renting the room at the Affordable Inn Motel, but denied any involvement with drugs. Police contacted the motel manager and housekeepers and obtained permission to search the room. They found meth in a clothing drawer next to a bag containing a scale, a lighter and lighter fuel, and there was a glass pipe in the microwave, according to police.
Police Chief Terry Wilson said Bashore was arrested where he was working at the demolition site of the 1st Choice Inns. The housekeeper reported finding 2.6 grams of meth when cleaning the motel room Sunday morning, Wilson said.
He said it is a little unusual for a housekeeper to find drugs, but over the years housekeepers have found many strange things in motel rooms. Police have run into problems with workers here from out of town living in motels, he said, but probably not much more than any other group.
Police are accustomed to dealing with more incidents in motel rooms because of the high percentage of rooms in town that have become short-term lodging, Wilson said.
Bashore did not post a $10,000 bond by Tuesday. Hell appear in court for arraignment April 9.
