Jim Garcia, 66, formerly of San Francisco, Calif., peacefully passed away March 2, 2008, surrounded by his family at home in Basalt, after a short but fierce battle with cancer.
Jim was an avid tennis player and taught tennis at clubs in Aspen and Basalt for more than 30 years. He was an accomplished guitar player and passionate about music from rock ’n’ roll to Hawaiian slack key.
Beloved husband of Olwen, loving father of Travis, Josh, Jim and Lenny, devoted grandpa of Kazuo, Rachel, Antonio and Gino, cherished uncle and father-in-law, Jim is survived by his mother, Norma Stagner Garcia, his brothers Tony and Phil, and his sister, Jeanne.
He was preceded in death by his father, Antonio S. Garcia, and brother Fred. Jim was much loved and will be very greatly missed by all his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Jim may be made at Alpine Bank, for the benefit of Roaring Fork Hospice and the Basalt School Band.
A memorial will be held from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at the Riverside Grill in Basalt. Please bring your stories and songs.
