Evelyn Sanders died April 12, 2008, in Blacksburg, Va.
She was born July 6, 1919, in Bismarck, N.D., and was raised in Linton, N.D.
She was valedictorian of Linton High School, a graduate of Jamestown (North Dakota) College and earned a master’s degree from Teacher’s College, Columbia University in New York City. She also attended classes at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. , and Russell Sage College in Albany, N.Y.
Evelyn spent many years as an art teacher and was a skilled jeweler and artist who worked in many media. She also was an award-winning gardener who had more than 500 garden seedlings under cultivation at the time of her death.
Evelyn was married to Joseph Sanders from 1947-77 and they had three children: Alison (Ron) Limoges of Glenwood Springs, and Paul Sanders (1951-97) and Mark (Gail McMillan) Sanders of Blacksburg, Va.
The family requests that any donations in her memory be made to the Montgomery-Floyd County Public Library (200 Miller St., Blacksburg, VA 24060) or to the Blacksburg Regional Art Association (Post Office Box 525, Blacksburg, VA 24063).
