COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — At Colorado State High School Rodeo Association events when you think cowboy, you think Cody Miles.
Competing in every available boys event but cutting, Miles currently leads the CSHSRA all-around title race by more than 150 points. With 10 points being awarded for first place in a particular event at each rodeo Miles is simply miles ahead of the competition.
He added more points to his lead over the weekend when the CSHSRA held another set of rodeos at the Latigo Trails Heritage Center. Located just outside Colorado Springs, Latigo Trails saw contestants in grades 9-12 travel from across the state to compete for prize money and points, vying for one of four top spots in each event on the Colorado State National Team.
Miles, a senior at Grand Valley High School, placed well over the weekend with a third-place finish in the bull riding and a third-place finish in the tie-down calf roping.
Miles currently sits atop the leader board in steer wrestling as well as in the all-around standings. He is ranked fifth in the saddle bronc riding, sixth in the tie-down calf roping and third in the team roping with younger brother Tyler.
A junior at Grand Valley High School, Tyler also did well at Latigo Trails, bringing home to Rulison a third-place run in steer wrestling. Tyler is currently ranked fourth in the state’s all-around race, sixth in the saddle bronc riding, fifth in steer wrestling, 23rd in tie-down calf roping and 21st in bull riding, as well as third place in team roping.
Rifle High School senior C.J. Vondette cruised up in the statewide rankings in the barrel racing with two second-place finishes in that event. Vondette moved up to second place statewide in the barrels, is currently third in the statewide pole bending standings, ranked fifth in the all-around race and she also holds 25th position in the girls breakaway roping.
The CSHSRA travels to the Colorado State Fairgrounds in Pueblo Saturday and Sunday for more high school rodeo action. Complete results, upcoming rodeos, photos and more can be found on the website at
