AARP driver safety
RSVP with the Colorado Mountain College Senior Center, 1402 Blake Avenue, will be sponsoring a two AARP Driver Safety classes The first class will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, May 27 and 28. The second class will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, June 3 and 4. Both classes will be held from 8:30 to 12:30 at the CMC Center 1402 Blake Ave., Glenwood Springs. There is a small fee, which includes the workbook and handouts. The program is a driver refresher course directed towards drivers age 50 and over. Most automobile insurance companies in Colorado offer a discount to those completing the course.

Senior Errand Day
The Carbondale Recreation Department will provide transportation around Carbondale and Glenwood from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7. Registration deadline is Friday, May 2.

Help out at a Wild West Rodeo
The Carbondale Wild West Rodeo is seeking volunteers for this summer’s rodeo series. Be a part of the action by working the front gate, in the arena or directing cars in the parking lot. Volunteers are being asked to volunteer for at least four rodeos, which take place from June 5-Aug. 21. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

All work is done at the Gus Darien Riding Arena on County Road 100 in Carbondale between 5-8 p.m.

Dollar chain for troops
Glenwood Springs MIddle School eighth-graders Alida Eide and Dara Chase have started a project to help give back to the Glenwood Springs community. They are making a chain of $1 bills to stretch the length of a football field, which amounts to a $6,000 donation to Operation Vacation to support the troops.

During their Dollar Chain Campaign, Alida and Dara will approach the community for donations of dollar bills to make the football-field-length chain. The project requires $20 for each foot. There are 300 feet in a football field.

Donations are being accepted by the inch, foot, yard or total field. Donations can be sent to Glenwood Springs Middle School, 120 Soccer Field Road, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601, Attn: PEAC Project/Operation Vacation. Checks should be made payable to Operation Vacation.
