Trip to Hotchkiss worth it

What: Hotchkiss Sheep Camp Stock Dog Trials

When: Events start at 7 a.m. today through Sunday

Where: The Delta County Fairgrounds in Hotchkiss (about 1 hour and 50 minutes southwest of Glenwood Springs)

Cost: $2 Friday, $3 Saturday and Sunday (children under 12 are free)

The Details: No lie, Hotchkiss is looking like one of the most interesting weekend options. This is a big deal for pooches and their handlers alike. Border collies from around the area will herd small groups of sheep through a prepared course. In addition to watching the dogs at work, attendees can stroll through the sheep camp and see the wagon exhibit. An opening ceremony/parade will be held on Saturday afternoon. Throughout the weekend, the town of Hotchkiss will be abuzz with activity, with yard sales dotting the streets. The Hotchkiss/Crawford Historical Society Museum will be free during the trials, as well. Breakfast will be held on Saturday at the Elks Club from 7-9 a.m. A Mother’s Day meal will be at the fire department will be held from 6-11 a.m. Sunday.
