GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — Over the years, the Summer of Jazz has seen all kinds of artists. But has there been a seashellist?
Maybe not.
Steve Turre and the Sanctified Shells are about to change all that.
Known as a trombonist, jazz innovator and, yes, sea-shell player, Turre draws upon a myriad of styles with his music. He’s about jazz, but there are hints of Afro-Cuban and Brazilian influences to his stuff, as well. In his long career, he’s been a member of the Saturday Night Live Band and has worked with famous folks like Ray Charles and Dizzy Gillespie.
On Wednesday, he brings his band’s mix of percussion, strings — and shells — to Two Rivers Park. The show starts at 7 p.m., and is free, like always.
