Rifle prepares for a huge weekend of music, praying

RIFLE, Colorado — You think Strawberry Days is big? Wayne Pollard of Rifle would say Garfield County residents haven’t seen anything yet.

The local real estate developer and Realtor with the Pollard Team in Rifle, has helped in organizing the God Rally Project, a three-day multi-act Christian music and speaker festival for the western Garfield County town.

In the last week, the website promoting the event, www.godrally.com has received nearly 50,000 hits, with more than 120,000 hits since March. And if those numbers give any indication of what to expect, the event is going to be big even if they see only a fraction of the number of hits they’ve had.

Pollard is prepared for that.

“We’ve got a sneaking hunch that it’s going to be more than anyone has thought,” Pollard said. “But you hate to be too optimistic. We are expecting a small crowd and planned for a large crowd.”

The event is free and open to the public running from June 20-22 at the Garfield County Fairgrounds in Rifle. Pollard expects around 5,000 to 6,000 people at any one time during the three days.

“It could be bigger than the crowd at the county fair,” he said “I may be wrong. That could be a little optimistic, but that is what I’m expecting.”

The event is a collaboration of several people and churches in the community that all came together in a relatively small amount of time to bring this huge event together.

Pollard said that the whole thing happened in 104 days and has raised nearly $100,000 in donations and “in-kind” donations such as hotel rooms, food and refreshments for attendees.

“The neat thing is that the entire community is behind this, all the way from Glenwood and Carbondale,” Pollard said. “If we would have had more time we would have had Meeker and maybe even Grand Junction included.”

According to Rob Lohman, the God Rally project began more than 18 months ago. According to a written statement from Lohman, “He felt called to organize a free concert to reach across generations, denominations and cultures with a variety of music, speakers, and activities geared to reach everyone.”

The festival will have several musical performances by national and local musical artists, including Nicole Hope Crandell of Rifle, and will also include several speakers throughout the three-day event.

Starting Friday evening at 5 p.m. the festival kicks off with Robin Mark, an accomplished Christian music artist, and will conclude at 8:30 p.m. that night. The festival continues on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a day of music and speakers on two separate stages.

Sunday concludes the event starting at 10 a.m. and closing at 8:30 with Christian Rock band Big Daddy Wave.

“We’ve got some exceptional local artists,” Pollard said. “You will probably see some artist that could be the start of their career.”

Overnight camping will be allowed in designated areas of the parking lot at the fairground, but reservations are requested by calling (970) 876-2791 or (970) 379-1842 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
