Editor’s note: Operation Vacation is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization based in Glenwood Springs whose purpose is to reunite deserving soldiers with their families on free vacations in Colorado.

When did you join the Army? Nov. 1, 2006

Why did you join the Army? I have wanted to join since I was in high school, to fulfill my dreams.

Where have you been deployed? Fob Rustamyia, Iraq

What was your favorite place you’ve been stationed? Fort Carson, Colo.

What military experience most surprised you? I was most surprised by the way the Iraqis live and how their way of life is so much different than ours in the United States.

What do you like to do in your free time? Spend time with my kids and all outdoor recreation.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I always wanted to be a police officer and be in the military.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever received: To be the best that I can be in every situation.

What’s your most memorable military experience? Whenever I came in from Iraq and saw my family for the first time in nine months.

What are you looking forward to doing while in Glenwood Springs? Hot Springs Pool and enjoying the Strawberry Days Festival.
