Man throws urine-soaked sock at cop in Vail

VAIL, Colorado — A man accused of throwing his sock, soaked with urine, into a Vail police officer’s eye was arrested on a felony assault charge last week.

Vail resident Jonathon R. Nagl, 24, had urinated in his pants when a police officer saw him banging on windows of a West Vail business shortly after 1 a.m. June 19, Cmdr. Susan Douglas said.

Nagl had told police he was trying to get inside the business, which was closed, Douglas said.

Nagl was not wearing a shirt and he didn’t know how he was going to get home, so police took him to the Vail Police Department jail, Douglas said.

The officer said his eye was “extremely irritated,” after Nagl tossed his sock into his eye during a search at the jail, Douglas said.

Nagl also lied on the floor and complained that he was “dying,” but he refused to tell police what was wrong, Douglas said. Police contacted an ambulance crew, but Nagl was fine when evaluated, Douglas said.

Nagl also tried to convince police to let him go by saying, “You’ll never get another job in Colorado” and “You’ll regret doing this,” Douglas said.

“All we were trying to do is keep him safe... he chose not to go with the program,” Douglas said.

Nagl was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and attempting to influence a public servant, both felonies, and false reporting to authorities, a misdemeanor, according to police records.

Nagl’s telephone number was not listed so he could not be reached for comment Thursday afternoon.
