Resurfacing on Highway 82
The Colorado Department of Transportation begin resurfacing a 3.5-mile stretch of Colorado Highway 82 in the El Jebel/Willits area on Monday.

The affected corridor will be between mileposts 17.5 and milepost 21, according to CDOT.

The resurfacing work will include 1-inch leveling course of asphalt, which will be overlaid with another 2 inches of asphalt for the wearing course. The project will also include guardrail and signing improvements, the CDOT said.

CDOT has contracted this project to Elam Construction Inc., of Grand Junction, for $3.68 million.

During the work on the project, which is expected to be complete in the fall of 2008, traffic will be reduced to a single lane through the work zones during non-peak periods of traffic. There will not be any construction activities or lane closures during peak periods of traffic.

According to CDOT, peak traffic periods go between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. in the up-valley direction, and between 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the down-valley direction, Monday through Friday.

The speed limit through the construction zones will be reduced to 35 mph for the safety of the project personnel and traveling public.

Canyon bike path closed at Shoshone rest area
The Glenwood Canyon Bike path remains closed between the Shoshone Rest Area and at the Hanging Lake Rest Area because of high water levels from the Colorado River, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Although can cyclists will not see high water where the bike paths are closed, CDOT crews in the area said river levels receded “a bit” Thursday, but were up again Friday.

For the safety of travelers on the bike path between Shoshone and Hanging Lake, it will not be opened until river levels recede and there is no risk of future flooding, the CDOT said.
