TRLL juniors team cruises to pair of victories

Juniors (ages 13-14)

CORTEZ, Colorado - The Three Rivers Little League All-Stars are rolling to start the District 1 tournament in Cortez, beating Orchard Mesa 9-6 on Tuesday and beating up on Montrose 20-11 on Monday.

Tanner Banc got the win pitching for the juniors team Tuesday at host Cortez Little League.

TRLL, which draws players from Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, Basalt and Aspen, brought its bats against Montrose Monday. Tanner Gianinetti ripped a pair of triples to pace TRLL. Thomas Cerise added two doubles, and Leif Mofher started on the mound and picked up the win pitching.

Next up for TRLL is a Friday semifinal meeting with either Grand Mesa or Cortez. The first pitch is slated for 6 p.m.

Also on Monday, Colorado River Valley Little League dropped its first-round game to Grand Mesa by a score of 13-6. CRVLL - which draws players from Rifle, New Castle, Silt, Parachute and Meeker - doesn't play again in the double-elimination tournament until today at 3 p.m.



Three Rivers stays alive

Majors (ages 11-12)

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado - Three Rivers Little League staved off elimination with a wild 16-14 win over Orchard Mesa in its second game of the District 1 tournament at Orchard Mesa on Tuesday.

The win came on the heels of a 13-7 loss to Cortez in Monday's tournament opener.

"The kids had a great game," manager Bill Barham said of what was a back-and-forth game with Orchard Mesa. "We were down, then up, down, then up. We held 'em off."

TRLL, the visitors on the scoreboard, had a 16-8 lead going into the final inning. Orchard Mesa rallied for six runs to make it interesting before a play at the plate brought the four-hour game to an end.

TRLL plays again today at 5:30 p.m. in the double-elimination tourney.

Colorado River Valley Little League got its tournament off to a strong start on Monday, scoring a 7-3 win over Orchard Mesa. CRVLL played a second-round game late on Tuesday. That score was not available at press time.



Colorado River Valley rallies to beat Three Rivers in opener

11-year-olds

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado - Colorado River Valley Little League scored five runs in the sixth inning to score an 11-5 win over Three Rivers Little League in the first round of the District 1 tournament on Monday.

Brooks Pressler started on the mound for the CRVLL before handing the ball over to reliever Teig Pauler.

Andrew Bowles smacked a first-inning home run for TRLL.

CRVLL returns to tourney host Grand Mesa Little League complex tonight for an 8 p.m. game against the winner of Tuesday's Grand Mesa-Montrose game. TRLL plays tonight at 5:30 p.m. against the loser of that game.
