Sunlight Ski Team Mt. Hood Summer Camp

Ski racers are invited to join the Sunlight Ski Team this summer for a ski racing slalom camp being held at Mt. Hood in Oregon.

Coaches John Bresnitz and Bob Lockard will be accompanying racers to Mt. Hood July 19-27. Mt. Hood's Palmer Glacier is North America's only year-round resort.

Consistent hard to grippy snow conditions, no pressure of upcoming races, coaches, daily video analysis and good weather makes Mt. Hood the perfect learning environment. One week at Sunlight Ski Team Mt. Hood camp can be equivalent to one season of training.

All ski racers are invited to join the team. The team will spend five days training at the top summer ski race training facility in the United States. Coaching, lodging, training, lift tickets and exercise facility fees are included in cost.

Berry Picker, Vail Half Marathon are Sunday

Both races start at 8 a.m. at the Gold Peak Children’s Center and are scoring races in the series. Additionally, the Berry Picker is serving as the final selection race for this year’s Teva U.S. Mountain Running Team. The top U.S. man, top two U.S. women and top U.S. male junior will earn a spot on the team.

The Eagle Bahn Gondola will operate from 8-9 a.m. for race-day spectators. Racers should park in the Vail Village parking structure where parking is free. Registration is available online at www.active.com and www.vailrec.com. Day-of registration is at the race starting area until 7:45 a.m.

Ruedi Reservoir hosts Aspen Yacht Club Regatta

The Aspen Yacht Club is hosting its 39th annual regatta July 19-20 on Ruedi Reservoir, which is located 18 miles up Frying Pan Road from Basalt.

Classes include: J22, Santana 20, Ultimate 20, Star, PHRF, A and B, C-15, Laser and Portsmouth. Races start at 11:30 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Spectators are welcome, as is anyone interested in racing, crewing or joining the club. Leave your dogs at home.

GSHS x-country parent meeting is July 22

The Glenwood Springs High School cross-country program is holding its preseason parent meeting July 22 at 7 p.m. at the Glenwood Park soccer field. Anyone interested in running for the team is encouraged to attend.

Three Rivers Youth Football skills camp

Three Rivers Youth Football will be hosting a mandatory skills camp on July 22 for third- and fourth-graders playing in Glenwood Springs this fall. Glenwood Springs Middle School is hosting the camp, which gets off to a 5:30 p.m. start.

The camp is also an opportunity for any players not yet registered to sign up and participate in the camp. Wear cleats and athletic clothes and bring water.

State Games of the West

Glenwood Springs, New Castle, Silt, Rifle, Parachute and Carbondale athletes of all ages and skill levels are invited to compete against participants from across Colorado and a dozen other Western states this summer in Colorado Springs at the inaugural State Games of the West scheduled for July 24-27.

The invitation is open to both teams and individuals in the area, with medals awarded in the 31 sports offered. There is also an outstanding Opening Ceremony on July 24 at the Colorado Springs World Arena featuring 2002 Olympic speedskating champion Derek Parra and a female Olympian to be announced. There are 31 sports offered and athletes from 13 western states are eligible to participate.

Lacrosse officials needed

The Glenwood Springs Lacrosse Club is looking for referees for high-school level games.

Certification is available for those interested. Experience with lacrosse is helpful, but not necessary. If you have been a referee for any other sport, lacrosse will transfer very easily. Games are paid. Contact Greg at 948-1376 or visit www.glenwoodspringslacrosse.org if interested.
