The Anvil Points Quilt Guild will be hosting its sixth annual Outdoor Quilting Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, and are inviting all of us from the Parachute/Battlement Mesa area to come and enjoy. They will be hanging quilts in the Silt Historical Park on Saturday in conjunction with Silt Heyday. Anyone interested in hanging a quilt, please call 625-3899.

Indoor cycling is coming soon to the Battlement Mesa Activity Center. If you are looking for a total body workout that includes cardiovascular, muscle strength and strength of mind, join the spinning group at the activity center. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced exerciser, indoor cycling will help you reach your potential. Classes begin Aug. 1 — every Tuesday and Friday evening. The instructors will be Sheri Michel and Alison Gromme. Register now at the front desk.

The Battlement Mesa/Parachute Kiwanians will be having a food booth at the Garfield County Air Show from 4-9 p.m.. Friday, Aug. 8; and from 9 am. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. They will be serving chilidogs, hot dogs and beverages. Proceeds will go toward the Terrific Kids Program, The Key Club and other Kiwanis sponsored events in our community that benefit our children. As a promo, The world’s fastest jet truck will be on display in the City Market parking lot from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8.

On Wednesday, July 16, several members of this year’s Grand Valley High School graduating class were honored at the Clough Fellows Reception held at Colorado Mountain College’s West Garfield Campus. The theme of the reception was “A Chance to Succeed.” Each of the honored students was selected after submitting a written application and having a personal interview with the scholarship committee.

The scholarships are funded through a generous donation from Genevieve Clough and supported through the Western Colorado Community Foundation. Mrs. Clough gave a few words of encouragement and inspiration to the recipients before they were presented with a certificate and portfolio. Students receiving scholarships and becoming the first Clough Fellows are: Hope Dees, Tearza Mannaeh, Dani Gonzales, John Gulliksen, Amanda Gunter, Tyler Harris, Cody Keeling, Sherry Mlakar, Danielle Noble, Laren Schubert, and Lyndsey Tonder. Congratulations to these students and thank you, Genevieve.
