GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado A year ago, Krista DeHerrera was heavily pregnant but that didnt stop her from dressing up as Sandy from Grease.
Thats just how dedicated she is to movies.
For the second straight year, DeHerrera, owner of Valley Events, Inc. has organized the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Associations Friday Night Flicks. Throughout August, Glenwoodians have been treated to free films at Two Rivers Park. Like last year, the final day in the series will be a blowout.
And costumes are very much encouraged.
Beginning at 4 p.m. this afternoon, the park will be transformed into a world of Oz. Hours before The Wizard of Oz screens, children and adults alike will be competing in a friendly costume contest and swaying to the sounds of The Strays. In an area dubbed Munchkin Land, there will be a climbing wall, arts and crafts, a bounce house and performances by Jammin Jim, a local juggler. A few food vendors will feed the hungry crowd.
It really just kind of grew into this fun event, said DeHerrera.

This is in the vein of Strawberry Days, of Mountain Fair, she went on. Its simply something for the community to do in August. Thus far, its been pretty successful, too. This year, good nights have brought in upwards of 300 people.
While DeHerrera has always loved movies, theres something special about these nights. She likes seeing the families out, enjoying themselves, eating picnics and such. She recalled last years closing night, when little kids were dressed up in tiny poodle skirts and greaser jackets. She realizes this might be the closest they ever get to going to a drive-in theater.
In her words, Being outside and under the stars is just a completely different experience.
Now, tonight, everyone in town can know exactly what that feels like.
