Sunlight Ski Patrol emergency care class starts Wednesday

The Sunlight Ski Patrol is beginning its annual Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) class Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Sopris Elementary School.

OEC is a training program for patrollers and others in the recreation community who deal with emergency situations. The nationally recognized program is designed to help manage the toughest emergencies, in all seasons, and is tailored to the non-urban rescuer.

Class participants must be 15 or older.

Labor Day Tournament at Rifle Creek GC

Rifle Creek Golf Course is hosting its annual Labor Day Tournament and Pro-Am Aug. 29-31.

The Pro-Am is Aug. 29 and begins with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. A $75 entry fee includes carts.

Aug. 30 and 31 are reserved for the amateurs. The flighted tournament’s $100 entry fee includes carts.

Rifle Fireside Lanes begins its third league season

It’s almost time for another season of bowling at Rifle Fireside Lanes.

Sept. 5 marks the third anniversary of the arsonist fire that destroyed the old Rifle Fireside Lanes, but it also marks the beginning of the third league season for the rebuilt facility. To commemorate the occasion, Fireside Lanes is holding sign-ups for winter leagues and is offering discounted bowling and pizza that night.

Lead King Loop set for Sept. 14

The fifth annual Lead King Loop charity races will be held on Sept. 14. In addition to the 25K and 12.5K, new to the schedule is a kids’ 2.5K. The races are part of the Colorado Runner Racing Series. The entry fee increases on Sept. 1.

These award-winning races take place in and around Marble on one of the prime color weekends of the fall.

Ram Classic golf tourney

The 2008 Ram Classic golf tournament, a benefit for Roaring Fork High School athletics, is Sept. 26 at River Valley Ranch Golf Club.

The 18-hole scramble tournament begins with a shotgun start and is $125 per person or $500 per team (individuals and pairs will be matched to form teams). Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Other tourney features include various contests, a box lunch, $5 mulligans, door prizes, a raffle and an awards ceremonies.

Canyon Shuffle races set for Sept. 27

Runners and walkers are invited to participate in the Glenwood Canyon Shuffle Race for Literacy on Sept. 27. A half-marathon (13.1-mile) run and relay race and 5K (3.1-mile) run/walk will take place on the bike path in scenic Glenwood Canyon east of Glenwood Springs.

The half-marathon begins at 9 a.m. and the 5K starts at 10. Buses will take participants from the finish line at the No Name exit of Glenwood Canyon to the race starting points. Relay teams of up to five people are welcome to participate in the half marathon. Team sponsorships by companies, service clubs or other organizations are encouraged.

The race entry fee includes a long-sleeved T-shirt.
