Rifle's Haynes shoots 71 at Montrose

MONTROSE, Colorado — Rifle’s Alex Haynes turned in a monster round at Thursday’s Montrose High School-hosted tournament at Cobble Creek Golf Course.

The Bear senior went 3 under on the front nine and 3 over on the back nine to card an even-par 71, which placed him second behind Montrose’s Pat Young in the individual standings. Young took the tournament with a 70.

“He was smoking today,” Rifle coach Deanna Forney said of Haynes. “He was hitting the greens and making his putts.”

Rifle’s Klayton Costanzo had a decent day as well for the Bears, putting up a score of 78. He was tailed by teammates Hogan Peterson (91), Hunter Finger (92) and Jacob Withee (94).

The host Indians won the tournament, combining on a team score of 222.
