Elks do many wonderful things for community

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Elks Lodge, No. 2286 of Glenwood Springs, and specifically Tom Regan, the lodge manager, for their recent donation to the Extended Table.

Our local Elks Lodge does so many wonderful things in our community, it is hard to keep up. Recently, they held a fundraiser for breast cancer and the Laradon Hall.

Laradon Hall is a private, nonprofit organization which was founded in 1948 as Colorado’s first alternative school for children with disabilities. Through the support of the Elks, Laradon has become one of the premier facilities of its kind in the nation.

After this recent fundraiser, there was some extra food that was not utilized, and Tom most graciously donated it to the Extended Table. Through his donation, we were able to serve approximately 48 dinners to some folks in our community that could use a little help.

When I asked if I could pay for the food, Tom simply smiled and waved his hand goodbye. Another example of the Elks’ spirit and willingness to help out.

Whether it’s cleaning the highway, raising funds for our children, or helping out our veterans, the Elks are always there.

If you are thinking of how you can help in the community, talk to an Elk, become a member, and they will show you how.
