Print Comment
New Castle’s 120th birthday will be celebrated at the New Castle Day and Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Burning Mountain Park, and west to the library, in beautiful downtown New Castle.

Frank Breslin will commemorate the day with a proclamation, naming the day New Castle Day and offering some of the town’s history. In future years, a variety historical aspects will be featured.

Organizers are looking to get community members and kids involved in the event. Activities envisioned are bag races, hay/straw bale bucking for bigger kids and adults and bobbing for apples. Groups wishing to raise funds are encouraged to participate. Farmers market-type vendors, food and craft vendors including pottery, handmade items, art displays, and sidewalk sales will be available.

Art demonstrations will be happening at Oz, the Artists’ Workshop, 331 W. Main St.; and wine tasting at Spirits at the corner of Third and Main streets.

An interesting feature will be the opportunity to sign up for freshly cut Christmas trees, available at Christmas time, at the Mr. T’s table. All vendors must have a business license, either a New Castle Business License, or a New Castle Special Event Business License. Call New Castle Deputy Town clerk Wendy Mead at 984-2311 with questions. Committee meetings are held at 7:30 a.m. Thursdays at Patti’s Main Street Coffee House. Come on down and get involved in a new, exciting event.
