Voter registration deadline looms



GARFIELD COUNTY, Colorado — Tomorrow’s it. Monday is the last day to register to vote for the November 4 general election.

Residents still needing to register for this year’s election can do so at any of the following locations: Garfield County Courthouse in Glenwood Springs, Rifle Annex Office, Carbondale town Clerk located in the Carbondale Town Hall, New Castle Town Clerk located in the New Castle Town Hall, Silt Town Clerk located in the Silt Town Hall, and Parachute Town Clerk located in Parachute Town Hall. Registration can also be done at the Driver’s License Office in the Glenwood Springs Mall.

Registration must be done by 5 p.m., or by 4:30 in Rifle.

A voter registration form can be downloaded at www.garfield-county.com under the 2008 general election news link on the home page.

The election on Tuesday, Nov. 4, will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at multiple locations as this election is a combined polling place election.

Voting in this year’s election can be done in three separate ways. Voters can either request a mail in ballot but must do so by Tuesday, October 28. Mail in ballots can be picked up also, no later than 4:30 p.m. in Rifle or 5 p.m. in Glenwood Springs, by Friday, October 31. Ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. on election day.

Mail in ballots can be dropped off in person at the Garfield County Clerk’s Office in Glenwood, Suit 200, Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., or at a designated drop off at the east entrance of the building, prior to the election day.

Ballots can also be dropped of at the Rifle Annex prior to election day Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. As well, each municipality will also accept ballots at their respective town halls during regular business hours.

An option for early voting will be available at both the Glenwood Springs Courthouse, or at the Human Services Building in Rifle. Early voting begins on Monday, October 20 and ends on Friday, October 31. Voters are required to bring one form of valid identification.

Emergency registrations or change of address after that day will be available at the Garfield County Clerk’s office at the Garfield County Courthouse in Glenwood Springs or the Rifle Annex.
