Fans of Glenwood Springs high school football are being asked to wear black to the Demons’ homecoming game against Rifle on Friday night.

Golf for treatment

Jaywalker Lodge, a drug and alcohol treatment center in Carbondale, will be hosting the first annual “Serenity Scramble” at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the River Valley Ranch Golf Club. The fun features an 18-hole golf tournament, followed by a dinner party on the patio at the River Valley Ranch golf club in Carbondale. Local musician Bobby Mason will perform. All proceeds from this event will benefit The Right Door, a local agency providing case management and treatment scholarships for individuals in the Roaring Fork Valley facing problems related to drug and alcohol abuse.

Spa’s anniversary

In celebration of Paradise Day Spa’s 15th anniversary, it is having an open house from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, with food, refreshments, fun and free skin scans.

Compassionate Friends’ new meetings

The Roaring Fork Valley Chapter of The Compassionate Friends will meet at 6 p.m. the second Monday of every month at the El Jebel Community Center. TCF is a national, nonprofit support organization offering friendship, understanding, and hope to bereaved parents, grandparents, and siblings. There is no religious affiliation and there are no membership dues or fees.

High school songwriting project

A high school songwriting and recording project will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Auditoria in Roaring Fork Valley High School in Carbondale. Local successful adult songwriters and musicians will be connected with the desire and talent of upcoming youth. The goal is to write and create a CD of local teen music. Hospice of the Valley

The new Hospice of the Valley will be conducting three valley-wide volunteer orientation meetings. The Aspen Orientation will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27 in the Robert Oden Conference Center at Aspen Valley Hospital; the Hospice Orientation in Glenwood Springs will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, in the community room at U.S. Bank; and in Rifle at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the E. Dene Moore Care Center.

Community members interested in learning how they can be involved are strongly encouraged to attend. Markey Butler, the organization’s executive director, will explain the extensive services and volunteer opportunities provided by the new hospice. Applications for new volunteers will be available at each of the three orientations.

Basketball officials needed

The Glenwood Springs Basketball Officials Association is looking for men or women to officiate high school basketball for the upcoming fall-winter-spring basketball season.

Officials are compensated for officiating and their travel time. Classes are held at 7 p.m. Wednesdays until Nov. 3, in Room 2104 at Glenwood Springs High school.

Backstage crew

Aspen Community Theatre is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join the backstage crew for the upcoming musical “Chicago.” Positions are available for assistant stage managers, the deck crew, the fly rail, sound, and lights. This will involve evening and weekend work from Oct. 29 through Nov. 16.
