Print Comment
CARBONDALE, Colorado — Grand Valley leapt into the Class 2A’a top 10 with last week’s 33-20 win over visiting Aspen.

The 5-1 Cardinals, now ranked eighth by RockyPreps, take aim at Roaring Fork tonight. The 3-3 Rams, too, are coming off a big win last week after knocking off Highway 82 neighbor Basalt, 17-8.

With running backs Soren Phibbs and Colton Cowan squaring off, the ground should take center stage in tonight’s contest.

The Cards’ Cowan racked up 154 yards rushing last week, while the Rams’ Phibbs followed up a 215-yard performance against Gunnison with a 115-yard night against Basalt last week.

Titans head to Basalt seeking fifth win

BASALT, Colorado — Coal Ridge revisited the win column with a trip to Gunnison last week, snapping a two-game losing streak with a 21-0 win.

It was the Titans’ first shutout in school history and their fourth win of the season, by far the most successful the young program’s ever had.

Tonight, Coal Ridge sets its sights on Basalt, a team that’s struggled in the early going of 2A Western Slope League play and the squad the Titans scored their first-ever varsity win against last season.

Basalt’s trip to Carbondale last week resulted in a 17-8 loss to Roaring Fork.
