Colorado Rocky Mountain School information

Explore the Colorado Rocky Mountain School from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at Plato’s Restaurant in the Aspen Meadows Resort.

CRMS is located in Carbondale and is a small school whose students graduate with big ambitions.

Pray for snow

The second annual KSNO Pray For Snow Community Dance will take place at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Cooper Avenue Mall in Aspen.

The event is free, and everyone is invited. The plan is to get everyone organized by 6 pm for a community dance as one large group. Participants are invited to bring drums.

Participants are asked to bring a can of food or unused coat. Those who do will be entered in to a raffle for prizes.

Window decorating contest

First, second and third place prizes will be awarded to the Glenwood Springs businesses which best display the nature of their store. Judging will take place Friday evening, Dec. 5. Window decor must be complete by Dec. 4.

Long-term care seminar

A “Long Term Care is A Family Affair” seminar to help people begin thinking and talking about the impact a long-term care event may have on the family and finances. Learn how to take control of future long-term needs and help preserve assets.

The free seminar will take place at noon and 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Beau Jo’s at Buffalo Valley. It is hosted by Edward Jones Financial Advisor Jay McGlade and Genworth Financial.

Energy Film Fest

The Roaring Fork Sierra Club Group and Cool Communities Committee present its second annual Energy Film Fest, featuring “Hooked on Growth,” 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20th, at Riverside Grill in Basalt; 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21st, at Dos Gringos in Carbondale; and 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22nd, at Main St. Coffee House in New Castle.

Different films will be shown at each venue; food and drinks will be available.

Fundraiser for WindWalkers

The Carbondale Firehouse will transform into The Crimson Club, a special fundraiser with live jazz and bluegrass music, gourmet samplings, and a silent auction for WindWalkers Equine Assisted Learning and Therapy Center at 7 p.m. Nov.15 at the Carbondale Fire House, 303 Meadowood, on Highway 133 past City Market in Carbondale.

The event includes music from the Jeannie Walla Jazz Quartet and the Frying Pan Bluegrass Band. Guests may sample creative and hearty appetizers and bid on high-quality silent auction items during the event, which hopes to surpass last year’s goal.

DUI checkpoints

Continuing throughout 2008, the Colorado State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies will work together to apprehend intoxicated drivers in Eagle County. The locations of checkpoints and increased patrols will move throughout Eagle County. The dates of the checkpoints will be given out prior to the event.

In November, a checkpoint will be held Nov. 16.

Carbondale street closure

Due to the electrical undergrounding project, Carbondale Main Street will be closed between Highway 133 and Eighth St. from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 18, 25, and Dec. 2; and Wednesdays, Nov. 19, 26, and Dec. 3.

Traffic will be detoured to Colorado Ave., Euclid Ave. and Sopris Ave.

Holiday home tour

Battlement Mesa P.E.O. Holiday Home Tour is already in the works. Circle Dec. 6, from 1-4 p.m., on the calendar. This festive annual event enables Chapter IP, P.E.O. to assist local women with further education and scholarships.

The homes are located in Battlement Creek Village, Stone Ridge Village and Mesa Ridge Townhomes. The homes are filled with personal collections, artistic decorative ideas and special holiday touches.

For the past ten years, the opportunity to visit the areas loveliest homes has been eagerly anticipated by sponsors, as well as guests. The warm, friendly atmosphere reflects true Christmas spirit. The proceeds enable Chapter IP to offer scholarships to deserving local women.

An afternoon of opera

Music and opera lovers throughout the Roaring Fork Valley are invited to an informal and educational afternoon of opera with Heidi Paul and Dory Light, at 3 p.m. Saturday Nov.15, at the Church of Carbondale.

Paul and Light will be performing excerpts from works composed by Dvorak, Mozart, Verdi, Puccini and Gounod, as well as songs by Hoiby, Duke and Mahler. Short descriptions will precede each set, explaining key information pertinent to the enjoyment and understanding of each aria or duet.

The concert is a fund raising event for the Carbondale Rotary Club and is open to the public with donations being accepted at the door.

The Church of Carbondale is located at 110 Snowmass Drive.

Girl Scout food drive

Girl Scout Troop 284 is hosting a food drive to benefit LIFT-UP from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Glenwood Springs Safeway store. donations of canned food will be collected and taken to LIFT-UP.

Harlan & Mastro Real Estate, 51241 Highway 6 in Glenwood Springs has been designated an additional LIFT-UP food drive location. Drop-off times are 2-5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Carbondale Chamber Business After Hours will be held for Chamber members and their guests from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at The Floral Boutique at 453 Main St., and across the street at Carbondale Insurance at 502 Main St.

Parade of Trees

A parade of trees is planned to benefit the Silt Historical Park the evening of Dec. 5. Local businesses will donate decorated trees to then be auctioned silently at the end of the night. The park, with all it’s historical buildings, will be decorated for this winter celebration.

The Anvil Points Quilt Guild will sell pastries and beverages.

Holiday greeting card

The 2008 Annual Limited Edition Holiday Greeting Card is now available through the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association.

This print of a painting by Mark Lemon was the winner of the 2007 Holiday Greeting Card contest at the 45th annual Fall Art Festival. Lemon’s painting, entitled “Adolph and Sonny,” is the title of the 2008 greeting and note card. Proceeds from the sale of greeting and note cards fund the chamber’s patronage of the Fall Art Festival.

Imprinting and bulk rates are available, and some older edition cards are available at a discount.

Pet Adoption Day

Animal Rescue Foundation will have pets available to adopt into loving homes from 12-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Petco in Glenwood Springs.

ARF is also in need of volunteers.
