Sommers completes basic training

Private First Class Chad M. Sommers celebrated his graduation from U.S. Army basic training with his family Oct. 31, 2008, at Fort Benning, Ga.

He is the son of Mike and Sharon Sommers and brother of Airman Jacob Sommers. He is a 2008 graduate of Glenwood Springs High School, where he played baseball and football for the Demons.

Chad was a squad leader during the physical training, which included rifle marksmanship. He was also certified in mortar training.

Now in Airborne jump school, he will join his unit at Fort Bragg, N.C., when completed.

Little sweetie

Dustin and Eva Worley of Glenwood Springs are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Amera Renée Worley, at 6:34 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction. She weighed 6.11 pounds, and was 191⁄2 inches long at birth.

Proud grandparents are Robert and Neicey Cannon of New Castle, and Sandy Jewell and Bob Giese of Carbondale.
