Betty Lou Trahern, 80, of Rifle, passed away December 15, 2008 at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Betty was born September 18, 1928 in Radium, Kansas to Jesse Elmer & Edna Belle (Pinkston) Snyder. She married Dale Leon Trahern on July 23, 1946 at her parent's home in Moscow, Kansas. They sold their farm in Kansas and moved to Colorado in 1963 to become Colorado Ranchers. While Betty was pregnant with their youngest son, Jess, they ended up having 125 overnight guests that first summer as family & friends from Kansas all came to spend their vacations in Colorado.

Betty loved playing the piano and singing. And taught her children to sing parts in a quartet at very young ages, (7, 8, 9 & 11), and accompanied them in their quartet as they grew up and continued accompanying them as adults.

Because of her faith in God she was a true servant of the people and dearly loved the Lord.

Betty is survived by her loving husband Dale; sons Van (Marcia) Trahern of Austin, TX; Alan (Debbie) Trahern of Elko, NV and Jess Trahern of Olympia, WA; daughters Shelia (Jim) Estes of Rifle, CO and Vickie (David) Downey of Grand Junction, CO; brothers Don (Bev) Snyder of Moscow, KS; sister Wanda (Otis) Gilliland of Wichita, KS; nine grandchildren Angela Carter, Karen Earl, Shannon Hoffmeister, Renee' Thompson, Amber Miller, Lora Caron, Gabriel Downey, Jedediah Downey, Sara Milholland; 17 great-grandchildren Alyx, Wyatt, Monika, Cody, Jeffrey, Leah, Nicole, Gabriel, Levi, Brooke, Zachary, Alyssa, Austin, Kacey, Ty, Jamie and Kimberley.

She was preceded in death her parents Jesse Elmer Snyder and Edna Belle Snyder.

A viewing is scheduled Monday, December 22, from 9:00 - 10:30 am at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church, with funeral services following immediately at 11:00 am. Pastor Rich Stoakes and Associate Pastor Janine Rose will officiate. Interment will follow immediately at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rifle. Rifle Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 200 E. 4th St., Rifle, CO 81650.
