GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado The Olathe Pirates ended up winning the Class 2A football title this year and led the 2A Western Slope with seven players selected for the all-league first team, with four more earning honorable mention. Next on the list, the Grand Valley Cardinals and Aspen Skiers each had six players on the first team.
Grand Valley finished second in the league to Olathe with an 8-3 record, 6-1 in 2A WSL play. They had a chance at the league title in the last game of the season against Olathe, but ended up losing 36-14. In the first round of the playoffs, the Cardinals lost 34-6 to Brush.
They sent six seniors to the first team and four more made honorable mention. The Cardinals were led by running backs Colton Cowan and William Waugh and had linemen Cole Kraft and Mike Davini on the first squad to go with tight end and linebacker Landon Paskett and running back and defensive back Michael Shepard.
Junior quarterback Ryan Gallegos made honorable mention with fellow teammates senior offensive and defensive linemen Dalton Penner and Joe Joyner, and junior wide receiver and defensive back Tyler Radel.
