GARFIELD COUNTY, Colorado — A documentary about methamphetamine addiction will air on local television stations Wednesday night.

The 30-minute documentary by Childhelp and Global Studio is called the Crystal Darkness Campaign. It begins Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast from Grand Junction, Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo on a variety of TV channels.

The program will air simultaneously on “nearly every TV station in Colorado,” the documentary’s website says. A Spanish version of the documentary also airs an hour earlier at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The documentary is described as “shocking and scary.” It’s meant to combat problems meth creates, and it highlights meth’s devastating effects on young people and their families. It features interviews with recovering meth addicts.

“With heart-wrenching and raw honesty, they speak to their generation with an unforgettable message of warning,” the documentary’s website says.

The documentary was filmed in Colorado at the end of October and also includes interviews with recovery specialists, law enforcement officials, community leaders, Attorney General John Suthers, Gov. Bill Ritter and first lady Jeannie Ritter.

A poster for the documentary says, “Meth is slowly destroying our neighborhoods and tearing our families apart. This is the night the community fights back. Make sure your family watches this historic documentary.”

The Crystal Darkness Campaign began in Nevada and has spread to Oregon, California, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Mexico and elsewhere.
