VAIL, Colorado — Interstate 70 re-opened after 10:30 a.m. after a closure in both directions over Vail Pass for avalanche control.
Three other mountain passes were closed Wednesday morning because of blowing snow and icy, snowpacked roads: U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass, U.S. 40 over Berthoud Pass and U.S. 40 over Rabbit Ears Pass.
Crews periodically close mountain roads and trigger avalanches to prevent slides from catching drivers unaware.
