GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — The Colorado Mountain College Gallery at Ninth and Grand in Glenwood Springs will host a new one-man photography exhibit starting tonight with a reception for the photography.
Photography Jimmy Westlake’s lifelong interest in astronomy is in his blood.
“I was born an astronomer,” Westlake said. “My ancestry does trace back to Galileo’s family, so maybe that’s why.”
Westlake, who’s an astronomy and physics professor at Colorado Mountain College’s Alpine campus in Steamboat Springs, is the focus of “Astrophotography, ” an exhibit featuring his celestial studies.
The reception is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Colorado Mountain College Gallery. The public is invited and the photographer will be in attendance.
Six of the images in the display have been chosen as the “Picture of the Day” on NASA’s popular “Astronomy Picture of the Day” website. And his image of Halley’s Comet has won several awards, including The Weather Channel’s Halley’s Comet Photo Contest in 1986.
