GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — The Points of Light artist reception and annual meeting starts at 6 p.m. Jan. 23. The Points of Light annual meeting acts as a 20-minute introduction to the Points of Light artist reception, and is followed by a dance performance from the members of the Junior and Senior Dance Company at the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts, as well as a performance by Premier Belly Dancers, led by Aarin Meager Benson.

Appetizers from the 8th Street Deli will be served, as well as wine and other refreshments. The public will be introduced to the talented artists who have contributed their artwork to the hope of a new, brighter year.

The Points of Light annual meeting will introduce the Center for the Arts staff, including Executive Director Gayle Mortell, Assistant Director Christina Brusig, Accountant Jessica Kidd, Artist-in-Residence Renick Stevenson, and Maintenance Personnel Eleno Velez.

The teaching staff will also be introduced, including dance teachers Maurine Taufer, Alex Loter, Chelsea Long, Christina Brusig, Aarin Meager Benson, Brecca Wilson, Sarah Brotherson, Sheryl Gordon and Susan Alexander. Art teachers Terry Muldoon, and Annie Bell and Renick Stevenson; pottery teachers Holly Curcio and Judy Davis; music and theater teachers Melody Hartman and Brad Vierheller; and silversmithing teacher Jessica Kidd will also be introduced. Much-appreciated volunteers will be introduced, a brief overview of the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts year to come will be explained, and a quick election for the 2009 board of directors before the entertainment begins.

The theme for the Center for the Arts this year is “Hope.” With the changing face of America, and the world, the theme is set to show light and inspiration in a time of darkness and change, which is how the name “Points of Light” was created.

The all-member, all-student Points of Light exhibit exemplifies the members and students, which are the heart and soul of this show. The colorful displays of beautiful paintings, fine art photography, sculpture, jewelry and pottery offer inspiration to anyone who has the pleasure to see them.

Local artists exhibited in the show are Michael Johnson, Susan Obermeyer Strauss, Rebecca Burckhardt, Vallee and Mary Noone, Julie Johnson, Grace Smith, Ann Lieber, Scot Gerdes, Richard Lyon, Kathy Honea, Mike Claffey, Lydia Claussen, Kay Cochran, Dan Glidden, Steve Taylor, Connie Engeler, Lane Stewart, Loni Tervol, Ricky Lively, Maggie Mae Butler, Tamar Mattorano, Janice Pursley, Mary Anne Harvey, Holly Curcio, Judy Davis, Renick Stevenson, Laurel Astor, Julia Williams, Gabriel Brubacher, Bruce Bowles, Michael Carter, Jessica Kidd and Barb Ventura.

All of the artwork exhibited in Points of Light is for sale to the public.

“We have never had this many artists participate in our all-member exhibit before, making this a very exciting exhibit,” said Mortell. “Come enjoy great food, great wine, excellent entertainment, and learn more about the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts. See you there!”
