Silt snowmobilers located

MESA COUNTY, Colorado — Three missing snowmobilers from Silt walked out on their own Tuesday morning after search teams from three counties looked for them since Monday morning.

Justin and Wade Yenter, brothers in their 20s, and Philip Carlson, 40, were in good condition but were thirsty, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The men walked to a Gunnison Energy field office in Gunnison County about four miles south of the Mesa County line and a half mile east of the Delta County line.

The search began Monday morning around 6 a.m. Teams from Mesa, Delta and Garfield counties searched about 150 square miles in the Buzzard Creek area to try to find the men, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said.

Several other agencies also helped out with the search effort, bringing the total number of people looking for the men to as much as 70.

The vehicle and trailer the men arrived in was found in the Buzzard Creek area but searchers didn’t know which way the men went until finding some tracks Tuesday morning. The terrain was rugged and temperatures were about 20 degrees at night.
